  • Achiote Seasoning

    Size

Achiote Seasoning is a mixture of spices and chiles that is commonly used in Mexico, especially in the Yucatan peninsula. It’s sometimes known as recado rojo. This seasoning’s primary ingredient is annatto seeds (known in Spanish as achiote seeds) – this makes the blend bright red and gives it an earthy, citrusy flavour.

Achiote Seasoning is usually used as a paste or marinade, so we recommend mixing the dry blend with some oil, vinegar and citrus before using. As a basic guideline, mix 2 Tbsp of the blend with 1 Tbsp of canola oil, 1 tsp of white vinegar and the juice of 1 lemon or lime. You can also add a glug of tequila if you like. (We like.)

Great for marinated and grilled chicken or pork, tossed on potatoes for roasting, or as a seasoning for Mexican rice (add dry to the pot in this case).

Ingredients: annatto seeds, black pepper, garlic, sea salt, cumin, allspice, orange peel, habanero chiles, lemon juice powder (contains corn syrup solids), cloves.
