Saffron – the facts about the world’s most expensive spice

One of the spices that we are asked about most is saffron. People come into our shops with questions, comments and stories about saffron nearly every day, and they most often revolve around its price. We get asked things like "Is saffron the most expensive spice in the world? Is it really more expensive than gold? Why does it cost so much? Is it worth it?" The stories often involve finding large amounts of saffron for very low prices in other countries.

The Story of Vadouvan (and how we come up with new blends)

Over the years, we’ve tried to add new blends to our selection periodically. When we opened in 2009, we only had 25 or 30 different blends and were eager to add more as often as we could. But it’s slowed down as it started to feel like we had the bases covered--we now have 120+ spice blends! When we do decide it's time to create a new blend, the first thing we do is look at our list of what customers have requested. Vadouvan had been added to that list nearly 15 times over the years, so we decided it was time to finally make it happen.

Our Inglewood Flagship Store is Now Open

The time has come! We have opened the doors to our Inglewood store and we are so excited to see our lovely customers in person once again! We are open Monday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm & Sunday 11 am to 5 pm.

Our Calgary Farmers' Market Stall is Open

We are thrilled to be back at the Market and seeing our wonderful customers in person once again. We're open regular hours: 9 am to 5 pm Thursdays - Sundays every week. We aren't offering pickups yet but we'll have it in place soon. We look forward to seeing many of you, and thank you all for your love and support! ❤️

We've been very busy over the past couple of weeks, and while our doors aren't open yet, we're getting closer every day. Here are some of our most important updates...

Online Ordering Update

Our online orders continue to surge upward, and we have been struggling to keep up. To keep things under control, we have decided to intermittently stop accepting orders on our website when we fall too far behind.

If you would like to place an order, we recommend checking the website every day at around the same time. We promise we will be open and accepting orders at least one day a week.

Our Website is Overwhelmed!

It’s true. We are absolutely overwhelmed with orders. We usually get online orders shipped out very quickly, but right now it's taking around 5-7 business days. We are capping our orders – once we hit the limit, we stop accepting any more until the website goes live again. We know how frustrating this must be for many of you. The good news is your cart should still be intact when the site goes live again, so if you miss out, please try again.
